Overview
The Documents feature in Goodcall allows your AI voice agent to understand and talk about your business just like a real team member would.
Instead of manually creating ‘Skills’ for every question, you can upload a single document containing all your business details – from products and services to FAQs and brand guidelines.
Your Goodcall Agent will then use that document as its knowledge base, answering customer questions conversationally and accurately – just like ChatGPT, but powered by your own company data.
What is the “Documents” Feature?
The Documents feature is designed to help your Goodcall Agent talk about your business confidently. Think of it as your company’s internal manual containing everything your Goodcall AI Agent should know to answer calls naturally.
Here’s what a document can include:
Descriptions of your services or products
Business FAQs
Company values, policies, or hours of operation
Pricing structure (if conversational)
Key brand messaging and tone
When a customer asks a question like, “What services do you offer?” or “Where are you located?”, your Agent will pull the answer directly from your uploaded document.
Please Note:
‘Documents’ are for conversational knowledge, not actions. If you want your Agent to take an action — like sending an SMS, forwarding a call, or opening a form – you’ll need to create a ‘Skills’ instead.
Best Practices for Creating a Document to Upload
Creating a great document doesn’t require any technical skill — just clear, well-structured content.
Here’s the best way to do it:
Step 1: Build the content with ChatGPT (or a similar AI)
Open ChatGPT (or Gemini, Anthropic, etc.) and give it this prompt:
“I’m creating a document about my business to upload into Goodcall, which provides an AI agent for handling incoming customer calls to my business. This document will be read by an AI voice agent to help it talk about my company’s products, services, and FAQs. Please format it appropriately and provide it as a downloadable PDF.”
ChatGPT will generate a clean, AI-ready document for you — usually with headings, bullet points, and concise explanations.
Step 2: Review and download the PDF
Read through the document and make sure:
Information is accurate and up to date
Language is clear and conversational
There are no confidential details you wouldn’t want shared in customer calls
Then, download it as a PDF file.
Step 3: Upload to Goodcall
Log in to your Goodcall Dashboard
Navigate to the ‘Documents’ tab
Click “Upload Document”
Select your prepared PDF
Wait for it to process and confirm it’s active
Please Note:
> Keep your document under 10MB
> Use simple language – the clearer the text, the better your Agent understands
> Update your document regularly as your business changes
Step 4: Test your AI Agent
Once uploaded, call your Goodcall number and ask a few questions from your document — for example:
“What services do you provide?”
“What’s your pricing?”
“Tell me about your business.”
If the AI responds accurately, your document has been effective in training your agent correctly!
Training Your AI Agent with Documents and Skills
To summarize:
Purpose | Use this feature |
Talk about your company (info, FAQs, services) | Documents |
Perform an action (send SMS, forward call, open form) | Skills |
Example:
“What are your business hours?” → Answered via Documents
“Can you text me your price list?” → Action handled via Skills
By combining both, you give your AI Agent the ability to both converse and act — creating a seamless customer experience.
